The Enchantments Death March, a one day thru-hike gaining over 6k in 18 tough, rocky, granite-filled miles is simply stunning and a mountain goat paradise.
Trip Reports
Sit back, relax, and read some good stories of adventure.
Need a sunny vacation, especially in the midst of a PNW winter? Pack your sunscreen and running shoes and book a flight to sunny Sedona, Arizona! A long weekend amongst its magical red rocks will leave you rebalanced, recharged, and reenergized.
The Chiliwist Butte fire lookout site near Malott is a great early season destination and the Chilowist area also has some really neat history.
Last weekend I did a one-way 22-mile bike ride on the Cascades to Palouse State Park Trail from Renslow to the Columbia. This amazing rail trail takes you on a fantastic tour of Washington's scrublands and railway history, though rockfall is a real concern in areas.
It's a pretty great thing when you can spend a few days celebrating your dad's 70th birthday with tamales, apple pie, and fire lookout adventures!
Triple digit temps, thunderstorms, fires, and horseflies.... the reason I oftentimes have a Plan E when heading out for a weekend lookout bagging adventure!
Spending a weekend camping at 10,000 on Mount Rainier sure is a good one! Talk about some stunning views, wow!!
I can't believe it's been a year since I joined family and friends in the Grand Canyon to complete the toughest and most memorable hike I've ever done: the Rim to the River and back in a day. I won't soon forget this experience in one of the most fantastic places in the world.
Relatively unknown Fawn Peak in Mazama is a gem of a peakbagging destination. One of the the 200 most prominent mountains in Washington, Fawn provides an enjoyable, open, ridge line traverse, plenty of spring flowers, and a broad summit with stunning 360 views.
Driveway Butte is a fantastic former fire lookout site just west of Mazama. The route is notoriously dry and hot and will test your legs but reward you with gorgeous views of the North Cascades, Pasayten, and spectacular Goat Wall.
Middle Tiffany (7,967') and Rock Mountain (7,971') in North Central Washington are on the State's top 200 most prominent peak list AND offer a spectacular summer wildflower show.
An incredible 30+ mile ultralight overnight to Miner's Ridge Lookout, deep in the Glacier Peak Wilderness. This was lookout #46 for me and I enjoyed not only surprising solitude, but one of the most fantastic mountain sunrises I've ever seen!
